Locations

Gösing am Wagram nestles at the crossways of two climatic zones. The pannonian climate from the southeast is responsible for sufficient ripeness; the continental climate from the north provides the necessary cool temperatures and freshness for our piquant wines with matured acidity.
Loess dominates in our vineyards; loess - such famous soil formation with a water storage capacity that gives the Grüner Veltliner its nutty spiciness. Climate, soil and location are the three main pillars of our terroir, which you can detect in our wines as well. Our top sites are Wilbling, Essenthal, Gmirk, Fumberg and Welfel.

Our vineyards

(Vineyard map)

Annaguld // Loess with a higher content of red clay and intense lime activity, therefore, a more compact and rather heavy soil, planted with Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc. South-west facing, same elevation as Wilbling vineyard (appr. 330m), ideal for wines of the Pinot family.

Essenthal // Deep loess with a dark humus layer of about 50 cm, planted with Grüner Veltliner, the oldest vines at the moment. Thus already smaller, loose-berried grapes with a richer aroma potential and lower susceptibility to botrytis; south-east position, 280m altitude which is slightly lower, yields Veltliner wines with a lot of substance and crispness.

Fumberg // Deep yellow loess, terraces sloping down from about 300 m to Gmirk Vineyard on appr. 250 m; planted mainly with Zweigelt, Grüner Veltliner and marginally Cabernet Sauvignon; south-facing direction, optimal solar radiation and best micro-climatic conditions, ideal prerequisites for full-bodied wines.

Gmirk // Deep loess again with a thin humus layer, altitude about 250m, lowest in the winery, planted with Riesling, Chardonnay, Grüner Veltliner, Gelber Muskateller, Zweigelt and some Syrah. Southern exposure, early ripening, well-structured wines with clear fruit and noticeable influences of terroir.

Wilbling // Very pale-yellow loess, planted with Grüner Veltliner, south-east facing, highest elevation vineyard on appr. 350 m, biggest plot, therefore, offers the chance for experiments, wines are especially fruit-dominated.

Welfel // Loess in the middle and lower parts, with a higher content of clay and blue loam in the upper steps, terraced vineyard, orienting from south towards west; sloping down from about 300 to 250 m like the neighbouring Fumberg vineyard to the west; Planted with Grüner Veltliner, similar conditions as in Fumberg vineyard.
